How to transition dog food without digestive drama
Dogs tolerate change a little more readily than many cats, but abrupt switches still cause gas, soft stool, or refusal to eat.
A simple schedule
Over 5–7 days, blend from old to new:
| Phase | Old | New |
|---|---|---|
| Days 1–2 | 75% | 25% |
| Days 3–4 | 50% | 50% |
| Days 5–6 | 25% | 75% |
| Day 7+ | 0% | 100% |
Large-breed puppies, seniors, or dogs with sensitive stomachs may need 10–14 days.
Pause if you see
Repeated vomiting, bloody stool, or major appetite drop—call your veterinarian before pushing the transition further.
